Fantastic! ...you’ve worked all of your adult life (30 years or more) and now you can retire but what are you going to do? It’s question which never seemed like a problem. In the back of your mind it seemed that when the time came you would have all the answers and there was no need to give it much thought. You’d have lots of time and even better, lots of money, to do whatever you liked.

That great day is looming and the big wide world is at your feet but where do you start. What are you going to do for the rest of your life? Can you really chase your dreams? Are you financially secure enough not to go out to work again? Will you be able to occupy your time without getting bored? What do like doing that won’t drain you financially? Do you have a partner & will he/she be involved in what you plan to do or are they still working? A multitude of questions start looming in your mind, going round and round weaving a matrix of confusion. Confusion starts turning into uncertainty and fear. Fear of the unknown.

You are nearly there...

What for years seemed like the winning post begins to turn into a black hole, waiting to devour you. It’s difficult to talk to anyone else about it. Your friends and colleagues will think you are mad, stupid, and ungrateful. You’re SO lucky, being able to retire early and all you can do is worry about the future, instead of enjoying it. That’s the only way they can see it. If they were in your shoes, they’d buy this & buy that, travel to ... and … or around the world, even. They certainly wouldn’t get another 9 to 5 job or even worse, do some boring part-time job!

Now here’s the good news (’cos that sure was a gloomy picture – real, but gloomy), you were right all along. Life after early retirement CAN BE fantastic. You can do whatever you really want. All you have to do is find out what the “whatever” is. With the right help it isn’t as daunting a task as you may have thought. The fact is a great majority of people live their entire lives, not knowing exactly what they want. How many people do you know, who are doing the job that they really love, living in the location of their choosing and spending their leisure time doing the things which really fulfil them with partners and friends they really appreciate? The fact is, most people drift into and through life and make the most of it…… AND CONTINUE TO DO SO IN RETIREMENT!!!

Plan your life journey...

Have you ever got into a car and just driven along? I bet if you have, it’s only been on the odd occasion. Normally you wouldn’t get behind the (steering) wheel unless you knew where you were going, would you? Even if you didn’t know how to get there, you’d know where you intended to go. You could just guess a route and arrive either very late or not at all. Of course, to help you find out how to get there you’d use a map and plan a route and get there at a time you had probably already decided – it’s that simple. If you wouldn’t waste your time and energy driving you aimlessly, then why on earth would you drive your life aimlessly?

Life coaching CAN help...

Life coaching is a tool which helps you, not only to find the location of your personal fulfilment, but also to plan the route to it. The difference between a good coach and a fantastic coach is that the latter can make it fun so that the journey is a labour of love. So, just ask yourself one question. After 30 years of serving your community do you, or do you not, deserve a happy and fulfilled life? Don’t you think you’re worth it? I know that when I asked myself those questions, the answer was a resounding YES every time.
